CEUs for Speech Therapists:

ASHA's Certification Maintenance standards require individuals to earn and report completion of 30 hours of professional development (PDHs) within a 3 year certification maintenance interval. The professional development activities are reported to ASHA as Certification Maintenance Hours (CMHs). One hour of professional development (1.0 PDH) is equivalent to one hour of certification maintenance (1.0 CMH).

Other continuing education activities, including courses not offered through ASHA approved providers, may qualify as professional development hours (PDHs) as long as the continuing education activity meets ASHA's definitions of professional development and acceptable activities.

The 30 Certification Maintenance Hours (CMHs) required during the 3 year maintenance interval may be a combination of ASHA CEUs and PDHs not recorded in the CE Registry. However, individuals who are selected for a random audit of their certification maintenance hours are required to provide their own documentation of those hours not recorded on a CE Registry transcript.

While only courses taken with approved CE providers may appear on the CE Registry transcript as ASHA CEUs, you likely may still use this activity, and others which are not officially approved, towards your certification maintenance requirement. ASHA accepts both ASHA approved CEUs and other Professional development activities as Certification Maintenance Hours (CMHs.) As long as a continuing education activity meets ASHA’s definition of professional development and acceptable activities, the hours will qualify as CMHs, and may be used toward the certification maintenance requirement. If you are selected for a random audit, ASHA will require documentation of your participation in these activities.

So, the IACET CEU provided by Learning Partners, along with the seminar brochure and documentation required by ASHA will count toward Certification of Maintenance Hours.
