What is the difference between "approved" and "other providers"? (courtesy of the NBCOT FAQ)
"Some providers continuing education programs are recognized by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET). IACET recognition ensures a certain level of quality assurance, and NBCOT extends preference to IACET-endorsed programs. Certificants have the option of obtaining all 36 PDUs from IACET-approved providers. AOTA, for example, is recognized by IACET as an "approved provider". Certificants who attend courses or programs from non-IACET providers ("other providers") can still earn up to 18 units from this category." -NBCOT

How do I convert the CEU I recently earned into PDU?
1 CEU = 10 clock hours. If you have completed activities relating to 6, 7, and 10 on the PDU chart, you can convert 1 clock hour into 1 PDU. NBCOT, accessible HERE on pg. 20. -NBCOT

The Continuing Education Unit (CEU), created by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET), is a nationally recognized standard unit of measurement for participation in a continuing education (CE) activity. One CEU is defined as 10 contact hours of participation in an organized CE experience offered by a provider, excluding meals and breaks. The contact hour is defined as one (1) clock hour (60 minutes).

Many organizations offer some form of continuing education credit, but only the IACET CEU is held to the strict, research-based IACET Criteria and Guidelines for Continuing Education and Training. Only IACET Authorized Providers, who undergo a strict evaluation by continuing education peers, can award the IACET CEU. IACET Authorized Providers are required to re-apply and be reauthorized every five (5) years.

Organizations that meet IACET's internationally recognized continuing education and training standards are approved as Authorized Providers. Authorized Providers may award IACET Continuing Education Units (CEUs).

Organizations transition to an Authorized Provider only after successful completion of an application and site visit.
